Voice Over Scams Part Two

As a voice over artist, you are naturally always in search of your next gig. Usually that means cold calling and auditioning for roles. Sometimes, if you have a public presence on the Internet, it means having a client enquire about your availability.

As with most interactions with strangers that you did not initiate yourself, you need to keep your wits about you and treat everything with suspicion. When you receive a call or email offering enquiring about your services, you need to put your hopes to the side, and inspect the communication with a keen eye.

I recently received another unsolicited email through my voice over website. The initial introduction didn’t spark much recognition, so I replied asking for more information. The next day, they replied… and it is at this moment that I recognized the script they were using.

Yes, it was a script, one that I had seen before! Not word-for-word, however it repeated the same beats as I had seen previously. Same offer of a $850 assignment, 2-day commitment, etc… I searched my own website, and there it was, almost exactly as I had received it two years earlier, and as I had posted in my article Voice Over Scams are Still Around.

I won’t bore you with the updated script, because the exact words do not matter. I am simply writing this to remind you to stay attentive, and to never let your guard down. Never give out personal information, and never PAY for work. It is always the other way around!

As always, stay dedicated to VO!
